A fairly generalized conception, as far as I have observed, but very far from reality, because there is no half to complete us. There are people with whom we resonate and who we feel attracted to from the very beginning, but they are not our half, but people who suit us. Distinct beings with imperfections just like us, and if we set out under the misconception that they must compensate for what we lack, we will be increasingly disappointed.

From this point of view, romantic movies create a distorted reality, in which, at the beginning of the relationship, the lovers feel they are attracted to each other, then they fight, then they search for each other and are finally happy together. No film presents their relationship after this period, because the real trials come later, and if the couple is not welded enough, it does not last over time. I am referring to the genuine couple, united by feelings, not based on material goals or the purpose of raising children, which creates the appearance at the social level that they are a genuine couple.

Love is not a smooth flow, free of dissensions and quarrels. On the contrary, it is a process of becoming, similar to growing into an adult human being. It’s a dance of closeness and distance between partners, of finding balance within the couple, meant to support it. Some time ago, someone told me that, in his opinion, the relationship should be harmonious from the beginning. I believe that it is formed over time, as I said before, because, no matter how much love there is between two people, the closeness between them brings to the surface the deepest wounds, likely to destabilize the couple. If the wounds are deep and generate defense mechanisms, coexistence between two souls becomes difficult.

It’s true, love heals, but only in time, if there is determination and mutual support. That compatibility between two people that is felt from the beginning can grow along the way, if there is a desire for it. If there is mutual respect. If they learn together the dance of attraction and rejection, because otherwise it turns into a dull coexistence, subject to the daily routine. If they have common ideals together.

The present reality, where we do everything at full speed and souls do not have the necessary time to harmonize, does not seem conducive to genuine lasting bonds, but rather, it is conducive to partnerships based on interests, whatever they may be, from the desire to have someone next to us, to banish our loneliness, to interests of a material kind that, unsupported by real feelings, are not able to lead to the evolution of the couple.

Stay close to someone you love even if they hurt you, have the courage to look at their wound and know that it hurts and trigger defense mechanisms, take their hands in yours and soothe their fears and anxieties, these represent the magic through which love fulfills its purpose. The magic of seeing the one next to us as a noble being, sometimes subject to mistakes and impulses generated by the fear of not being loved.

The other day a friend told me that she is waiting to meet her soulmate with whom she can build a future.
