Petra, the rosy city located in Jordan impressed me with the grandeur and omnipresence of the stone. Rocks everywhere you look. Only if you look up do you glimpse a strip of sky through the empty space between the peaks. Information were provided in all languages. People from all over the world walking the path between the rocks listening, marveling, taking photos. I also got lost among them for a while, I listened, I took photos, then I distanced myself. I approached the rocks and silently touched them. The stone spoke the language of silence, of introspection. A language accessible to anyone, but people, focused on their traveling in the middle of the world, ignore it, listening to the commotion of those around them.<\/p>\n
I looked at the small windows carved in the stone, through which the western civilizations looked out into their own world created among the rocks. From place to place, one tree at a time surviving the empire of stone, making its way among the rocks, looking up at the sky. I think this is the secret of survival, to look up to the sky without ceasing, losing yourself in its endless blue light.
\nAt one point I saw the face of a Bedouin carved into the rock, carrying his camel through the desert, those places being crossed by caravans in the past, being an important point of intersection for trade routes. I listened to the soft step of the caravans flowing towards another horizon, the rustle of the sands raised in the air, the howl of the wind creeping among the rocks.<\/p>\n
I admired together with the others the huge facade of the temple of the Treasury of the Pharaoh (Al Khasneh la Faroun), dug directly into the rock, dedicated to the kings of those times, then we were silent with the rocks, listening to the rustle of history, like a time machine cracking from all joints.<\/p>\n
The message I deciphered visiting the grandiose construction that has become one of the 7 Wonders of the Modern World was this: to dig into the stone of your own existence and shape a grandiose life through the beauty and joy of every moment, because the conclusion is that reaching closer to the sky, that is, the achievement of personal goals which gives fulfillment to life, is only a matter of will.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
