Today I walked in the land of ice. I got caught in the nets of winter, losing myself in the white of the cloister. I felt the snow crunching under my feet, creaking from every joint, like old rails, taking me back in time, in the footsteps of my childhood, when I conquered the sleds. Those times when I would get lost in the snow with other children until late at night, by the light that spread dreamy glows around. We made snowmen with coal eyes and carrot noses, we piled between walls of snow, we stepped on the ice until the glass was under our feet, we rolled in snow wet to the skin. We didn\u2019t go to change our clothes, for fear our folks wouldn\u2019t let us go outside again, and yet we didn\u2019t feel the cold burning our cheeks or our half-frozen toes. There was as much color in that immeasurable white as that child\u2019s heart.<\/p>\n
Today, walking on the ridges of winter, I felt the snow crunching under my feet and my soul smiled. I blew over the snow, pulling out all those memories from under the piles of snow, releasing them into the light of the sun, and the wind, and the whirling hours. And I was glad. I felt as happy as when I was making snowmen, and I reconstructed them in my mind, and they came to life. Then I remembered the afternoons when I would go sledding on the sled, sometimes falling or picking a bump. In the hastily tailored dream, I stepped on illusory ice and lumped myself, and everything was so alive. As alive as the land of ice in which I walked, which surrounded me on all sides.<\/p>\n
I smiled with vivid eyes, over which some years had snowed, realizing the magic through which I had recreated those times with the wand of the mind, like a magician.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
