The heart needs no words, only silence, to listen to the whisper of divinity. The electromagnetic field of the heart is 5000 times stronger than that of the brain, scientists say, but we often follow the tortuous paths of the mind, due to blockages accumulated over so many lifetimes, which are activated one by one in different contexts, creating masks and appearances out of a desire to protect our vulnerable parts. Every blockage is an untreated wound that pulsates somewhere deep, stopping the access to our true life, which translates as joy.Jesus often said “Rejoice!”, an exhortation that almost no one speaks of, because joy is considered a word in the wind, something utopian, being overwhelmed by so many problems and financial hardship. You can only rejoice with the heart, the brain does not rejoice, it only analyzes and finds ways to deal with dangers, finds ways to survive.
And now, after 2000 years from those times, when the question of survival really arose, and when Jesus came with this exhortation, we find new and new reasons not to rejoice, activating the survival mode, although many had the bare necessities to live, at least for a while. The heart is activated by love, a feeling considered old-fashioned, not adapted to these consumerist times, where everything is replaced, including relationships, at the slightest misunderstanding, because we have countless opportunities around us.
We operate at the level of the brain, hampered by masks that support our fight-or-flight mechanism, we do not try to understand the other, but only to make them conform to our own brain-dictated desires and visions, because we cannot bear to see him different from us, because being different from us turns him into an enemy.
And so, we duel with the masks on our faces, created by the blockages that prevent us from seeing clearly ourselves and the world around us, with qualities and flaws, trying to adapt the other to our own requirements.Shielded by masks, we feel invincible, although we know deep down that we are not, but we cannot give them up because we cannot find that safe environment in which we can open up little by little, confident that the one next to us sees us as we are, and accepts us as such. Those around us also wear masks out of a desire to protect themselves and thus, the power of the heart is inhibited, not allowed to express itself and circulate freely. Not accepted as it is, the individual considers the world to be an unsafe space, in which one cannot be itself, which amounts to its cancellation.
Love is the only one that gives us the strength to stay in the relationship long enough to gain trust to open up, step by step, and look deep within ourselves and the other, bringing to light the blockages that exist, deactivating them one by one, making one step towards the other.
Love exists everywhere, but we don’t let it express itself. It knocks at the door of each of us. We feel desires, emotions, feelings, impulses, and the first moments spent together are sublime. But being close to the other favours touching the masks that each one wears. And thus, we remember that unsafe space in which we refuse to express ourselves, afraid of making ourselves too vulnerable, so that we are not rejected. If at least one of us had the courage to follow the path of the heart, opening up and letting love take its course, that electromagnetic field would turn into a torrent that would dissolve with its power all masks and words, would make to silence the tiresome voice in the brain, creating space for silence, favoring the observation of the inner wounds and of the other, which would thus lose its power in front of the power of love.
We only need a few moments of silence spent together, in which we stop the rush of the mind, in which we do not judge, do not make plans and projections, in which we feel that fluttering thread of love, which, in that quiet silence would grow more and more, becoming a purifying and transforming torrent. We would see ourselves as we are and the other as he is, with qualities and flaws alike, and we would feel okay, no longer projecting onto him all the flaws we don’t want to see in our own person, saving for our qualities, as if only we were good and worthy, the other not. The masks would fall because they would no longer be needed, and the relationship with the other would become a safe space.
And for all of this to happen, it takes a moment of stillness, just one moment, when we let the hustle and bustle of the mind fall silent, listening to the voice of the heart that brings with it the gentle whisper of divinity.
18 nov 2023

When the heart speaks, the brain is silent, and the masks we used to armor ourselves, in order to protect ourselves, fall one by one.
