Yesterday I was having a conversation with an acquaintance who happened to cross my path. I confessed to her at one point that I like watching the sunrise and the sunset, it’s like stepping into another world. She also confided that she used to go for a walk every day after sunrise and, in those moments of brilliance, she prayed to the divinity to show her what her purpose in life was. I looked at her long and hard, scrutinizing her deep face for a moment. “You know what your purpose is. The answer lies within you. You just have to discover it.” She looked at me with wide eyes, trying to grasp the truth of my words. We were both silent for a moment when souls seemed to rest in each other’s shadow. “Yes. I should look within myself for the answer to the question.” She concludes in an optimistic tone, convinced that it is somewhere deep inside her.
What prevents us from going down into our depths, to take from there everything we need to feel fulfilled? The feeling that we can’t do it
alone, that we need someone or something from outside to give us a helping hand. The feeling that God is too far away to hear our pleas. The feeling that we are small and weak, that we cannot grasp the immensity of life with our senses.
We can encompass the uncontainable with the soul. With the stillness that settles whenever we manage to temper our thoughts, their desolate skepticism. With the soul we take steps towards ourselves and others, drawing bridges to the unknown, opening ourselves more and more to the opportunities that come our way.
